The club has been in existence for over 50 years. It is one of the first radio control airplane clubs chartered by the AMA in the United States.

Since our inception the club has grown from a handful of RC enthusiasts to over 100 members at the present time. Members range from 12 years to over 80 years old including several female pilots. Pilots of all skill levels are flying at our site.

For interested newcomers and novice pilots we have several instructors available during the week

and the weekend. The club has an introductory to RC flying program for anyone interested who just wants to get their wings.

AMA Information:

The AMA is the Academy of Model Aeronautics, the governing body of model aviation.

It supports and promotes our hobby through contest, demonstration flying, education, adopt-a-school programs, and provides liability insurance for the RC pilot.

All members flying at the Mile Hi RC Club field must be AMA members.

Club Flying Site Location:

52860 E. Quincy Ave. Strasburg, CO 80136 This site is accessed from E. Quincy Avenue and is about 300’ north of the road.  It is approximately 2.2 miles East of the Kiowa-Bennett Road.  Approximately 10 acres have been leased to accommodate a 600’ x 58’ runway that runs EAST-WEST, parallel to Quincy.  Model aircraft fly to the north of the runway, away from the road.   The runway is covered with a Geotextile made from a synthetic polymer.

We will gladly advise you of the right equipment to purchase so your introduction to RC flight will be a pleasant one. After you have purchased your equipment we will assist you in the building and proper set up and maintenance of your airplane, engine and radio. RC instructors will guide you from take off to landing to solo flight. After you have mastered solo flight, several pilots will be more than willing to help you through the more advanced aerobatic maneuvers. You might even want to start competing in Radio Control Flying.

Club Field Amenities:

Mile Hi RC has been at the Quincy Avenue location for over 18 years. When Mile Hi RC first leased the 40 acres of unobstructed land from the State of Colorado it was nothing more than prairie and tumbleweeds. Since then the club-members have invested over $45,000 in making the field what it is today.

The field is surrounded by a fence and has a security gate with a combination lock. A 600’ x 58’ runway that runs EAST-WEST, parallel to Quincy.  A covered transmitter impound board is available for safe keeping of radios. The sheltered pilot area provides protection from the sun in summer and snow and rain in the winter. For safety reasons a designated engine start up area has been provided. A separate pit area with wooden workbenches are available to make setting up your airplane as easy as possible.
