Mile Hi R/C Combat Report for May 4, 2002

Today again saw relatively high winds for the second ever Mile Hi R/C Combat meet. The nine pilots who flew in today's combat were Adam (adamdb) Bryant, John (Prez) Corliss, Randy (RH) Hodges, John (JohnJ) Jaugilas, George (Web-Pilot) Kerr, Dean (TiGuy) McBournie, Roy Olsen/Ric Emerson Team, Larry Ott, and Tim Ott. Each round the winds got stronger. It seemed like the wind was trying to blow the combatants all the way to Wyoming. You really had to work hard at staying in close and not getting to far to the north to get out of radio range.

Four official rounds of combat were flown. There was one midair, which resulted in a spectacular kill for (TiGuy). TiGuy sheared off all of one vertical stab and half of the other on JohnJ's Gremlin. Both engines died, and both glided to safety, with JohnJ missing all of his streamer and string.

There were two other cuts during the day, but only one was claimed. Prez scored a cut on RH. I (Web-Pilot) suffered a cut in the same round, but no one claimed responsibility for my orange streamer, so I guess I can claim it for myself.

At the beginning of round 3, RH got a cut, but it wasn't a streamer. He had a minor altercation with a prop. Randy, hope the finger is OK, and heals quickly!

After the official proceedings, there was a practice round of "all up, last one down". During this fray, JohnJ scored a kill on Larry Ott. JohnJ, too bad it did not count toward the Top Gun points.

Top Gun points awarded today:

Dean (TiGuy) McBournie 1 Kill 3 Points

John (Prez) Corliss 1 Cut 1 Point

Since Dean now has 3 points to Adam's 2, Dean has bragging rights for the next two months. Did you say 2 months?

Next Mile Hi R/C combat meet is July 6, 2002. Mile Hi R/C Flying club is hosting the Alex Pluckrose memorial Fly-In on June 1st, so no combat meet will be held. The Pluckrose is a great event. Alex likes airplanes that looked like airplanes, and built mostly scale airplanes. Come on out on June 1st and see some of his fine vintage aircraft, and other aircraft of all types. Come and fly to your hearts content. Click here to see flyer.

Thanks to Denny Edwardson for Timing, Dave Teich and Ric Emmerson for taking pictures.

Thanks to everyone who participated. A great time was had by all.
