Airpark Elite Combat Event September 13, 2003

To whom it may concern.

Well obviously many of you missed the Airpark Elite combat contest this weekend.  Perhaps it was due to Dean's bad luck with weather and the fact that it looked like his string of bad weather was going to stay intact.  Well it was chilly and we did get some sleet at first, but it eventually dried up and temperatures soared into the mid forties.  Yeah it was cold, but the wind wasn't howling.

Today the old adage about persistence paying off came true for George.  Not only did his planes fly well, but he did too, taking first place with 1200 pts.  George had a couple of multiple cut rounds and managed to hang onto his streamer for ALL rounds.  Team Neff (Brian & Tom) did their usual great job of flying, but could not fend off George on their home turf.  Brian took second and Tom took third while I stayed in the doghouse.  Not sure why as my Go Devil and Bandit were both flying great and I had good runs, but I just managed to give away my streamer every round.

The Civil Air Patrol team was great and did an excellent job of scoring. I think we saw some new combat recruits today.  I also flew my SSC P-40 and proved to everyone that SSC works at 6000+ ft of density altitude.  Heck I even had to tie on a streamer and tape another streamer onto my wing to show that SSC planes can still fly, and fly well, at altitude even with a sick engine run.  Now I have witnesses so there is no more excuse for not putting a few SSCs together for fun, practice, and maybe even some competitions.

Thanks again to Dean and the Airpark crew for a great event and congrats to George for his big win at Airpark.  Now if he can just put those planes back together (of course we had quite a few mid airs).

I might add.  I had a very good day.  A lot of luck, but the Go Devil and Avenger were both flying great!!!  JJ was kind enough to take this picture of my broken Avenger with the streamers all over it.

Thanks to Dean for running a good contest, and to Airpark Elite for hosting the meet.  Great time!!!!
