Combat Report - Dogfight Over Aurora I June 7, 2003
Hi George,
A big thanks goes
out to you and the judges for a well ran meet. The competition was
intense and we finally had some good weather. In a general observation,
the level of combat has been elevating at every event. Its gone from one
or two cuts to a bunch. As we have said before some of its luck but a
lot of it has to do with opening up your field of vision to intercept another
persons plane in a pursuit, than to watch your tail to avoid being cut, at the
same time maintain a since of stability with your own aircraft to keep from
becoming disoriented and meeting terra firma ( Latin translation ) EARTH!
All this is happening at about 80 mph , will not give a person much time to
react, let alone more than two wrong inputs on the sticks, and if your
the lucky one to have the only streamer left and have a gaggle of upset pilots
trying to whack off your streamer, now the real flying comes in to play.
One interesting comment before the meet I heard was that pylon racers can only
go fast and turn left, maybe so , but Dean and I were combating at
a lower altitude and no one wanted to come down and play
except J.J.
ONCE
AGAIN IT WAS A HOOT AND THANKS,AGAIN,
Tom Neff ( one of
those go fast and turn left guys )
George,
A few thoughts occur right away:
1. I must have had a target painted on my
back in Open B because I couldn't seem to keep a streamer for more than one
minute in a round.
2. I'm thoroughly outclassed flying against
the likes of Tom, Dean, and JJ.
3. It was a typical Mile Hi Combat event
with lots of friendly camaraderie on the ground, a little trash talk (mostly
from me), and "every man for himself" once the match started.
4. I had an absolute ball even if I did
wreck a plane.
5. 2610 was an absolute blast! I felt
really good that JJ only managed to get one cut on me even though his plane
was so much quicker and nimbler than mine.
6. You did a great job of putting on the
match.
Adam
