RCCA Combat Meet Longmont, CO October 26, 2002
On
Saturday, October 26th the LAMA club in Longmont hosted a Class "B"
open
combat
meet. Andy Rutkowski was the CD and did a great job of organizing and running
the meet. The club supplied streamers for all and prizes for the top three
pilots.
Ten pilots
came out to fly and nine flew at least one round. One pilot lost his
plane to a bad servo during a test flight before the meet started. We flew 2
heats in each of the four rounds and there were many kills, cuts and a few
midair's. Tim was involved in one of the midair's and his plane was totaled.
It was nearly a head on collision. The other plane's wing was cut in two
and Tim's wing was ripped off the fuse. Both planes came down in a pile of
broken parts. The good news was that Tim had the other guys streamer wrapped
around his wing so he got the kill. Tim had to fly the last round with my
plane and did a great job with it.
When
the dust settled and the points were added up Tim Ott came out on top. He
finished with just over 1000 points and won a Predator combat kit. Andy, the
CD, was 2nd and I think Dave, the LAMA club president, was 3rd. I
finished in 5th and since the LAMA club members did not take prizes, I
won a 1/2A combat kit.
We
all had a great time and several pilots who had not flown combat before said
they were going to do it again. Everyone thanked Andy and the LAMA club for
hosting a great meet.
